Albatross

Water, water every where,
Nor any drop to drink.

We spent today watching Royal Albatross by boat, and from a viewing station on their aerie atop the Otago Peninsula Head.  They truly are magnificent birds.  Albatross breed only once every 2 years, when they must seek land to nest and to fledge the newborn.

Jan rather likes boat rides.  Here to see the albatross, below the heads where they nest. from the water.  The Otago Peninsula is the only accessible land mass in the world where albatross are known to nest and mate, otherwise spending their entire lives at sea.

On top of the heads is an observatory, and this jail from days gone by...

The road to our lodging on the Otago Peninsula runs along the water and is VERY NARROW.  At times, a small slip and you would be in the drink.  But this whole experience was so worth it.  Of course it doesn't help you pay attention to driving when you see a sign like this... note the tag line, 'Baked at Sparrow's Fart. Since Adam was a cowboy.'

Our B&B hosts were Bruce and Jenny... and pictured here, Joey.  Joey had a favorite country and western song he would dance to.  Only the one song, but he got down for that one!
