After a beautiful six hour drive, we arrived in Hanmer, got some food, and checked into our place just outside of town. It was a free-standing unit in one of New Zealand's many holiday parks that offer various forms of lodging at one location. A beautiful setting and only a couple of kilometers into town and the famous hot spring facilities. At first opportunity, we grabbed our towels and swim suits and headed to the hot springs.
We usually like the ambiance and tranquility of the less developed hot springs, but this one was special. It has over twenty individual pools all fed by the same natural hot spring source.
And a circular pool with a current for kids to ride on their flotation devices.
We would be back another three times during our four day stay in Hanmer.
And would spend Christmas day with a wonderful, large family staying in the units next to us at the holiday park.
